June 27, 2024 – 11:00AM:

Yesterday our teams were able to access Churchill Falls and re-energize both of the main lines. All customers have been restored.

There continues to be a risk of outages for all customers in Labrador while active fires continue to burn near transmission lines in both Labrador and Quebec. We’re taking actions to minimize the risk of outages where possible.

Please continue to be prepared for outages. Please follow our website and social media (@NLHydro) for the latest information. For updates anytime, please contact our customer service team at 1-888-737-1296 ornlhydro.com/outages.

Wabush

All customers in Wabush have been restored, including data centres, the landfill and cabin areas.

Labrador City

Some customers in Labrador City continue to receive power via Hydro Quebec. Once we are ready to re-establish full connection to Churchill Falls supply, we will advise these customers. This will require a brief outage (20-30 minutes).

Previous (June 26, 2024 – 4:30PM) – Power has now been restored for all customers in Labrador City. This afternoon we were also able to re-energize the transmission lines from Churchill Falls, and restore power for most customers in Wabush. We are working to restore all remaining customers at this time.

As wildfires continue in Labrador and Quebec, we’re monitoring closely. There is a risk of additional power outages for all customers in Labrador – make sure you’re prepared and continue to follow us for updates.

Previous Update (June 26, 2024 – 1PM):

Labrador City

Power was restored for most customers in Labrador City last night. Electricity for customers in this area is being provided through backup supply from Hydro Quebec. Some sections of the community remain without power. Work is ongoing to try to restore power for those customers today.

All customers and businesses are asked to conserve electricity wherever possible to ensure we can continue to provide power for everyone. If electricity demand exceeds supply, rotating outages may be necessary. Please help by switching off lights you’re not using, limit hot water use, and reduce the use of major appliances where possible.

Wabush

Customers in Wabush remain without power. Backup supply from Hydro Quebec is not possible for this area, so our teams are actively working to identify other options to provide electricity for our customers in Wabush.

For any customers who are without power, the Salvation Army Labrador West Community Church are kindly opening their doors today to those who’d like to come by to have a meal and charge up their mobile devices:

423 Bartlett Drive, Labrador City
Opening at 11AM
Lunch – 12PM
Supper – 5PM

Thank you to all of our customers in Labrador West for your understanding and patience as we work to safely restore power as quickly as possible for everyone. For outage updates anytime, please call us at 1-999-737-1296 or visit nlhydro.com/outages.

Previous:

As a result of the forest fires near Churchill Falls, this afternoon two transmission lines supplying power to customers in Labrador West, tripped offline. This resulted in power outages for all customers in Labrador City and Wabush.

Labrador City:
Our crews are currently working to restore power for customers in Labrador City using backup power from Fermont, QC.

While this backup supply is being used, we are asking all customers to please conserve electricity to help ensure we can maintain power for most customers in the area. If the demand for electricity exceeds our available supply, rotating outages are possible. We encourage all customers to be prepared for possible power outages.

Wabush:
An evacuation order is in effect for the town of Churchill Falls. While the forest fires continue, it is not safe for our crews to travel to the area where our transmission lines are impacted.

As a result, customers in Wabush will be without power overnight and should prepare for the possibility that extended power outages could continue into the coming days. Backup supply from Hydro Quebec is not an option for this area and power restoration will not be possible until it is safe for our crews to assess damage and make necessary repairs.

Thank you for understanding as we continue efforts to safely restore power as soon as possible for customers. We know extended outages are challenging for customers. Please check on your friends, family and neighbours.

We will provide further updates as more information is available. Please follow our website and social media (@NLHydro) for the latest information. For updates anytime, please contact our customer service team at 1-888-737-1296 or visit nlhydro.com/outages.

Stay safe everyone.
