Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell reveals her condition for agreeing to a revival of the teen drama. Mitchell played Emily Fields, appearing in every season of the popular mystery show, which is based on the novels of the same name by Sara Shepard. Although the original wrapped in 2017 after seven seasons and 160 episodes, the series lives on with the spinoff Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, which airs on Max.
While speaking with E! News to promote her new travel show Thirst with Shay Mitchell, also on Max, the actor addressed the possibility of returning for a Pretty Little Liars revival, stressing the importance of “never say never.” But, at the same time, Mitchell said she'd be interested only if the other Pretty Little Liars cast members joined her. Read the full quote below:
“Never say never. I say never say never. I would say I’d probably need the other girls to all do it with me. And I, you know, I just talked to Troian the other day, saw Ashley over, you know, text the other day too. And I would, I think it would be special if we were all in it. But yeah, never say never.”
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Could Serve As A Reunion
The Two Shows Are Connected.
If the teen drama is renewed for another season, it could set the stage for a proper reunion for at least some of the original characters, such as Aria and Emily, potentially helping the new group face off against a seemingly unstoppable villain.
As it has progressed, the Max spinoff has several references to the original Pretty Little Liars show. At one point, two of the main characters in Summer School, Imogen (Bailee Madison) and Tabitha (Chandler Kinney), take a trip to the central town of Rosewood. They even share some screen time with Eddie Lamb, a character from the original, though a different actor portrayed him.
The spinoff upped the ante in its more recent installment, bringing back Annabeth Gish in the role of Dr. Sullivan. Gish played the same character in the original Pretty Little Liars series, making her the first actor to properly continue a role in the Max reboot. Gish is far from just a glorified cameo, as Dr. Sullivan is a heavily recurring character. It's also teased that she may actually be a villain. In the same vein, Summer School made a blunt reference to the controversial Ezra and Aria pairing.
