These Tamil dramas promise action, drama and romance

2022 may have been a difficult year for Bollywood, but it was the exact opposite for Tamil movies. While Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Ponniyin Selvan 1 crossed Rs 500 crore mark recently and become the second highest-grossing Tamil film, Kamal Haasan's action-thriller Vikram became the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu. 1. Ponniyin Selvan 1 - Amazon Prime Video
Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus project Ponniyin Selvan 1 created history by becoming the second Tamil movie to collect Rs 500 crores worldwide. The two-part historical drama which stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi in lead roles, was made on a whopping budget of Rs 500 crore which he collected in just 32 days, per TOI.
Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel with the same title, the period drama revolves around the life of Chola prince Arulmozhi Varman. The film focuses on his rise as emperor Rajaraja I.
2. Vikram - ZEE5
Renowned actor Kamal Haasan's action-thriller Vikram which was made on a budget of Rs 120–150 crore approx, emerged as a successful money-minting Tamil movie that shattered several box office records. According to a TOI report, the film earned a total of Rs 410 crore worldwide while becoming Tamil Nadu's highest-grossing film as well.
The plot of film revolves around a special agent, who discovers a criminal plot involving the drug lord of Chennai while investigating a case of serial killings. Not just Haasan, but the film also features talented actors like Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles.
3. Beast - Amazon Prime Video
Vijay and Pooja Hegde starrer Beast which was made on a massive budget of Rs 150 crore went on to secure a spot on the list of highest-grossing Tamil movies of 2022 with a worldwide collection of Rs 236.90 crores, per ABP. Helmed by Nelson, the film revolves around a spy, who rescues a few hostages held captive in a mall by a group of terrorists.

Made on a budget of Rs 150 crore Valimai went on to collect Rs 225 crore worldwide, per TOI. The plot of the Tamil movie revolves around an IPS officer, who is adamant to stop a group of illegal bikers from committing more crimes in his region. But will he succeed?
5. Etharkkum Thunindhavan - Netflix
Etharkkum Thunindhavan starring South superstar Suriya joined the ranks of highest-grossing Tamil movies of 2022 with a total worldwide collection of Rs 179 crore, per TOI. The story of the Tamil action drama which was made on a budget of Rs 60 crore revolves around a lawyer who decides to punish a group of goons, including the minister's son.
6. Thiruchitrambalam - Sun Nxt
Dhanush's light-hearted rom-com Thiruchitrambalam served as a perfect break from all the action and drama. While lead actors were praised for their strong performance, the film's gripping narrative that revolves around the life of Thiruchitrambalam and his father struck an instant chord with the audience. Given that the film was made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, it turned out to be a huge hit - collecting Rs 110 crore worldwide, per TOI.
