Governor Kathy Hochul today announcedmore than $40 millionin capital grantsto support critical capital and infrastructure needs at 136 nonprofit organizations serving New York families and veterans. The grants, awarded through the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program and the Veterans’ Nonprofit Capital Program, build on the Governor’s longstanding commitment to supporting New York service providers and bolstering its nonprofit sector.

“This round of funding will help organizations across our state continue to deliver critical services to the New Yorkers who need them – including veterans and families,” Governor Hochul said. “From transformative renovations to service facilities to basic upgrades that keep them running, these awards will help to bolster our nonprofit sector, strengthen communities, and ensure that New York families can stay connected to vital services.”

Governor Hochul announced $39.6 million in awards to 118 human services organization through the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program.NICIP, administered by the Dormitory Authority of New York State provides capital grants of up to $500,000 to empower nonprofits across the state to undertake projects that improve the delivery of critical services.Governor Hochul launched the NICIP opportunity in October 2023 to make targeted investments throughout the State that improve the quality, efficiency and accessibility of nonprofit human services organizations. Qualifying nonprofit organizations were eligible to receive between $50,000 and $500,000 in NICIP funding for reimbursem*nt of eligible capital costs including technology, renovations and expansion of space used for direct program services as well as renovations that enhance energy efficiency or accessibility. The Governor also announced $1.13 million in awards to 18 veterans services organizations through the Veterans’ Nonprofit Capital Program.VNCP grants reimburse veterans organizationsforcapitalimprovement projects ranging from $25,000 to $75,000.The program supportsarchitecture, design, engineering, construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation or expansion of an eligiblefacility, and purchase of eligible furnishings or equipment.Projects supported by this program include new roofs, ADA-compliant upgrades and kitchen and common area renovations among other welcomed improvements. By providing financial support, we empower organizations to improve infrastructure, enhance services, and create sustainable growth. Our commitment ensures that vital resources reach those who need them most, fostering stronger and inclusive communities.”

New York State Department of Veterans’ Services Commissioner Viviana DeCohen said,“Nonprofit service organizations throughout New York State offer life-changing resources for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families every day. We know that these organizations faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic from which they are still rebuilding. It is our great honor to provide this capital improvement funding to them, helping these nonprofit organizations that serve our state’s heroes in so many ways.”

These two programs build on Governor Hochul’s commitment to protecting and supporting the nonprofit sector, which delivers critical resources and services to New Yorkers across the state. Recently, Governor Hochul announced more than $38 million in capital funding awards for 33 New York colleges and universities to support major construction projects, new equipment, and other investments in university infrastructure The Governor also has announced nearly $38 million to strengthen nonprofits’ facility security and overall preparedness, and $13 million for organizations providing career training to New Yorkers with developmental disabilities.

In addition, the Veterans' Nonprofit Capital Grant Program underscores New York State's commitment tosupporting the crucial community institutions and organizations dedicated to serving New York’sveterans,service members, and their families.By providing essential funding, it empowers these organizations to enhance their facilities, expand their services, and ultimately enrich the lives of those who have dedicated themselves to the service of our state and nation. This program is one among dozens of stateveterans benefits and services administered by DVS and partner agencies that amount to investments of well over $200 million dollars supporting New York's Veterans and their families in the current fiscal year.
