<![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (17)

Methuen - Maria Regina Ilagan Mackey, born on September 7, 1965, in Manila, Philippines, was unexpectedly called home to heaven in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, while she peacefully slept on her vacation in Paris with her son, Little Dave. Gina left this Earth doing the thing that brought her the most joy - experiencing pieces of the world with her family. The baby sister to five siblings, Gina grew up in the Philippines, and was the youngest daughter to her incredible parents, Aurora and Gavino Ilagan. She was brought up with an impenetrable devotion to her Catholic faith, the ultimate pillar that forever acted as her guiding light through life. She was always naturally curious about the world and the way things worked. She questioned rules and cultivated a life that allowed her to do things her own way, earning her the loving nickname "rebel of the family." But even in her "rebelliousness" she retained such innocence and naivety.Gina attended Merrimack College in Andover, MA. While she was in the US for college, she met a young man with light red hair and big glasses named David. Soon after they met, they went from two kids in love to husband and wife. Their love moved fast and grew with them as they figured out life together. Gina and Dave said their vows of marriage in 1987 at the tender ages of 19 and 21. Their commitment to one another and their persevering love allowed them 37 beautiful years of marriage. They embodied the definition of the phrase "through thick and thin" and built a life together that speaks for itself.Along with her husband Dave, Gina raised three children, Kristen, Anna, and Little Dave, to pour their love into. She was a devoted mother, fierce protector, and number one supporter of her children. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing her kids happy. Her expressions of love and pride for her children were never-ending, as she never missed an opportunity to tell them such. Her relationships with each of her kids grew and evolved over time as each one of them entered different stages of life. But as much as life changed, her love remained the steady constant for them all.Beyond her own children, Gina earned the nickname "Mama Mackey" amongst the countless children and adults she nurtured over the years. She was always the first to lend a listening ear, a safe place to go, words of advice, and maternal care. She really saw people for who they were, the good and bad. There was no hiding around her and she gave everyone a chance. Rather than making you work for her love, she selflessly gave it for free. And it was up to you to take it with care. Her generosity knew no bounds.Outside of her home life, Gina excelled in her career in business banking. She loved her ability to help people and was proud of the success she was able to reach at Citizens Bank. Her intellect, undeniable people skills, and love for the business found her as a perfect fit in her career.Gina was a beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt (Tita), in-law, and friend. Her warmth, honesty, and infectious laughter are already so sorely missed. Her energy was electric and would light up the room as she entered. And although the world feels a little dimmer since she was called home to heaven, we can still feel the warmth of her glow and hear the joy in her laughter. The precious memories she created with us leave us no choice but to smile when we think of her, even if it's through tears. The abundant outpouring of love speaks volumes as to the size of the hole Gina left behind. The countless stories are a testament to how many people she touched and how far her love reached. To call her death a loss would be like saying the ocean is deep. Obvious, truthful, and yet still a massive understatement. Those of us who have been lucky to know her, are the ones who must now shoulder the burden of life without her. But we do so knowing that the profound joy and love she poured into those around her remains with us to carry and share as we move forward.Maria Regina Ilagan Mackey is survived by her loving husband, David of Methuen MA; her children, Kristen, Anna, and David; sons-in-law, Danny and Drew; her sisters, Mercedes and Luisa; brothers, Boyet and Benjie; her beloved family dogs, Sarsi, Ri, Sadie, and Mango; her extended family and her many friends all around the USA and the world.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen, MA. The funeral Mass will take place on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy Church, 254 Merrimack Street in Methuen, with a burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.Flowers can be sent to Cataudella Funeral Home or donations can be made in Gina's name to the MSPCA in Methuen, MA.

Danville - Sergeant Ian Taylor, born on May 8, 1974, in Methuen, MA, left us unexpectedly on April 26, 2024, while passionately serving the Billerica Police Department. His journey was one of love, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering friendship. In 1997, Ian married the love of his life, creating a home filled with warmth and open arms for all who entered. Together, they nurtured two remarkable children, embodying the essence of family and community.Ian's greatest joy and proudest moments were taking care of his family. He was involved in every aspect of their lives, whether it be attending Nathan and Kylee's games or school events, doing projects around the house, enjoying family dinners, going for rides on his motorcycle with Mindy and their friends or celebrating the holidays together, he was happiest with Mindy and his children by his side. His ability to put a smile on his wife and children's faces was unparalleled and brought him immense joy. Ian was their rock, role model, and protector.A devoted son and brother, Ian's impact extended far beyond his family and the precinct walls; it permeated the very fabric of our community. With 21 years of law enforcement experience, Ian's dedication began in 2003 with the Lawrence Police Department, continued through the Wilmington Police Department, and found its culmination in the Billerica Police Department, where he served as a Detective until his passing.Ian's commitment to service was evident not only in his professional accolades, such as the Medal of Commendation from the Watertown Fire Department, but also in his tireless efforts with the Billerica Substance Awareness and Prevention Committee, where he offered hope and assistance to those grappling with substance abuse.Yet, beyond his professional achievements, Ian's true essence lay in his infectious personality. His listening ear, goodwill, sharp wit, and ever-present grin illuminated the lives of all who knew him. And let's not forget his secret stashes of goodies—a testament to his playful spirit. To say Ian will be missed feels inadequate; his absence leaves a void impossible to fill. But as we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived—a life dedicated to service, compassion, and unwavering kindness. <![CDATA[The Eagle-Tribune: Obituaries]]> (43)

Bradford - "The fact that our heart yearns for something earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home." - C. S. LewisMaria Stuart, of Bradford, MA, 38, passed into the arms of her loving Savior on April 5, 2024, after a valiant battle with a long illness. A 2007 communications and theatre arts graduate of Gordon College, Maria's career was in restaurants and hospitality, but her true gift was an endless well of compassion for everyone around her. Maria was, in the tradition of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky (whose works she adored), a heartbroken idealist - always trying to love this world, but always sorrowing over it too. It could have made her bitter, but instead it made her unfailingly, endlessly, and stubbornly kind. Maria was no stranger to love, and leaves behind her devoted parents, seven siblings, many nieces and nephews (with whom she was a reliable partner in sly jokes and food sneaking), and faithful companion and supercat Blueberry. She accomplished in her too-short life what most people never do: she let grief and pain carve her into something more grateful; more welcoming of silliness and magic; more committed to laughter and to prayer; and with the good sense to feel awe at wildflowers, squirrels, hymns, and ripe berries. In her memory, be foolishly generous, naively compassionate, and outrageously kind.A private family memorial will be held in May at Linebrook Parish Church, Ipswich.

Kingston - William D. Whitney, 89, died on April 18, 2024, at his camp overlooking Mendums Pond in Barrington, NH, after a two-year battle with prostrate and bone cancer. He was born on May 18, 1934, in Kingston, NH; the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Nason) Whitney.Bill graduated from Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, NH, with the class of 1952. He worked at the Western Electric Company in Andover, MA, as a machinist and mechanic, specializing in high vacuum systems, along with production line trouble shooting and repair. Bill also worked as a contractor, remodeling and building houses mostly in the Riverside and Rocks Village districts of Haverhill, MA. In addition, he was a dealer selling Polaris Snowmobiles in Kingston, NH. Bill was a founding member of the Millvale Snow Bounders snowmobile club. However, after retirement he became a "snowbird" spending winters in Sarasota, FL, with summers at the camp on Mendums Pond. While always a fan of a fast car, boat, motorcycle, snowmobile, or dragster - "Wild Bill's" lifelong passion was flying. Bill soloed and received his private pilot's license at age 16. Throughout his life he owned and flew a variety of vintage 1940's era single propeller driven aircraft, including a Piper J-3 Cub, Convair Stinson, North American Navion, and amphibious Republic RC-3 Seabee. Often Bill flew out of old cow pastures hemmed in with tall trees, which had been converted into local grass strip airports, with no runway lights or radios and perhaps a working windsock. Sometimes the cows would reclaim the field after he took off, but if he buzzed the field a few times, they would amble to the sides and let him land. Bill never made a landing he did not walk away from.In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister Phyllis Crowell, and brother Robert Whitney, both lifelong residents of Kingston, NH. He is survived by his son Mark Whitney of North Attleborough, MA; his son Eric Whitney of Princeville, on the island of Kauai, HI; his daughter Jeanne Whitney of Edwards, CO, in the Vail Valley; and four grandchildren.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road (Rt. 108), Newmarket, NH.
